The use of glass beads is an age-old tradition. They were the first
ornaments to be worn by man. They also served as powerful talismans
and were also a form of payments.
The production of glass beads by Venetian and Bohemian master
craftsmen spread in Europe in the second half of the 16th
century and was popular clear to the 1920’s.
Thanks to the efforts of Ornella Aprosio and Aprosio & Co the
weaving of glass and crystal beads is experiencing a renaissance.
Ornella Aprosio studied the techniques of working with glass beads
and began to create beautiful wearable works of art. Each step of
the manufacturing process is executed entirely by hand with natural
materials.
Nature inspires a large part of her collection. Insects, flowers,
leaves, sea shells are very elegantly translated into necklaces,
bracelets, earrings and even sometimes into whimsical handbags.
As a result, the jewelry and accessories reflect the subtle
elegance of natural forms which combined with feminine touches and
the preciosity of the beads become sophisticated images of the
natural world.
On
behalf of the artists of the gallery we would like to thank the
Museums, collectors and friends for their support during 2007.
Best wishes for 2008
